A Legacy Giving Society of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, UCC
For more than 250 years, the Light of the Christian Faith, Hope, and Love has shone brightly in the people of the Boothbay Region. In 1766, John Murray became the first pastor of the then-Presbyterian community founded in the newly formed town of Boothbay. In honor of this young, dynamic, Scottish-born evangelist, we are pleased to invite you to consider and pledge a planned gift to our church and thus become a member of the John Murray Society.
The John Murray Society was established as part of the 250th anniversary of our church. Now located on Townsend Avenue, the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor continues its mission to bring Christ's light into the world. Our steeple shines in the night sky as a beacon of hope and, with your support, will do so for the next 250 years.
More than 30 individuals/families joined the John Murray Society in its first year. New members continue to join and welcome at any time. Planned gifts through the John Murray Society help assure that our church continues to prosper beyond your life while giving maximum financial flexibility during your lifetime. BequestList Item 1
A bequest through your will may be for a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. It may be a gift of cash, securities, or real estate. Such a gift is not taxable on the donor's estate.

Life Insurance GiftList Item 2
The Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor can be named as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy either in total or in part. Such a gift passes tax-free outside of the estate.

Retirement Account GiftList Item 3
Similar to a life insurance gift, the church can be named as the full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, SEP, 401 K. or 403B accounts. Often heavily taxed, assets from these accounts can be given tax-free to the church or other qualifying non-profit.

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)List Item 4
With the gift of a CRT, a trust is created into which assets such as cash or securities are transferred. The trust account is managed by a trustee nd the donor is provided annual income for an established period of time. Often the donor and spouse receive income for life. The gift of a CRT yields a tax deduction in the year it is established on the present value of the remainder of the interest which will ultimately be received by the church. Bequests, Life Insurance, and Retirement Gift accounts, though thet very easily be arrangedm need to be considered in the context of your entire estate planning. The gift of CRT is more involved.
