This week in the series, “Your Generosity at Work” we highlight Partners for World Health (PWH), a non-profit 501(c)3 based in Portland, Maine that collects medical supplies and equipment from healthcare facilities, manufacturers, other organizations, and individuals and then sorts, evaluates, repackages, and prepares these supplies and equipment for distribution to individuals, communities, and healthcare facilities in need all over the world.
PWH was started by Elizabeth McClellan, Surgical RN at Maine Medical Hospital who was disturbed by everything that was thrown out and going to landfills. She collected things in her own home for quite some time. Now she has two huge warehouses and has developed relationships with local donors who provide support. Maine hospitals and healthcare facilities use her service to decrease their trash expenses. She now has 20-50 volunteers daily that help sort through all the donations and help package them for shipping.
Our church helps support this organization with an annual donation. If you would like to learn more about how you can volunteer or donate, visit https://www.partnersforworldhealth.org/.
